Overview

America’s National Churchill Museum at Westminster College seeks friendly individuals to provide customer service and security as Visitor Services Associates.

Do you enjoy interacting with many different types of people? Do you like to inspire others about history? If so, this may be the perfect job for you. This position creates a welcoming environment for our Museum guests, generating retail sales and enhancing the visitor experience. This position requires accurate cash handling, friendly customer service, an attentiveness for keeping the Museum secure, and a knowledge of or excitement for history.

The hours for the Visitor Services Associate job range from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm and the Museum is open every day except New Years, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Because of this, we ask that applicants are willing and available to work some weekends each month.

Responsibilities

Daily tasks

  • Greet customers and answer questions
  • Operate the cash register to sell admission tickets and store merchandise
  • Answer the front desk phone and take messages
  • Open and close the Museum, including exhibits and cash register
  • Conduct security checks around the Museum and report any issues to the Manager of Guest Services
  • Maintain the Museum and shop throughout the day with light cleaning and restocking
  • Maintain good communication with all Museum staff, especially the Manager of Guest Services

Other tasks

  • Assist with lifting and moving supplies and items when needed
  • Serve as a gallery security attendant
  • Help set up, take down, and staff special events
  • There is an opportunity for applicants to become tour docents as well if interested

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide constituency, whether in person, over the phone, or electronically. 
  • Sincere dedication to quality customer service and security. 
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information. 
  • Willingness to learn relevant historical information.
  • Problem solving.
  • Attention to detail.
Compensation

$12/hour. Eligible Westminster College students can also be employed through the work study or campus employment programs

Other

Education and Experience

Must be at least 16 years old. Previous experience in customer service and/or knowledge of 20th century Western history is preferred but not required.


Schedule (view Westminster College academic calendar)

  • During Westminster College spring and fall semesters: The same schedule is made for each weekday so we can work around class schedules. Therefore, hours per week depend on the availability of both the applicant and other workers and will be determined around the start of the semester.
  • During Westminster College summer and winter breaks: 7-8 hour shifts (8:30/9:30 am – 5:00 pm) with 1 hour lunch break. Half-day shifts may also be available.
  • Holidays, except Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day
  • Weekend availability
  • Occasional evening availability for special events
